Botulinum toxin A has been in use by the beauty industry for over 25 years for wrinkle and other treatments without any known long term issues. Botulinum toxin A comes as various brand names (all of which have the same effect), including Botox® and Bocouture®.

The Botulinum toxin is adminstered with clean, new (tiny!) needles for every client in a safe and sterile manner. Very small doses are required to relax the muscle, allowing the overlying skin to become smoother. As a result any wrinkles lessen, and often disappear all together. The effects generally take 3-5 days to take effect leaving a natural, refreshed and youthful appearance.

Traditionally, treatments are performed on three areas of the upper face:

  • Forehead ‘worry’ lines – the wrinkles formed when we raise our eyebrows.
  • Glabellar ‘frown’ region – the area of the face between the eyebrows where strong wrinkles form.
  • Crow’s feet – the areas around the outside of the eyes. Wrinkles form here when we squint or smile.

In 2006, a cosmetic licence was granted to treat frown line wrinkles with Botox® in the UK. Botulinum toxin is used in other areas of the face and for several other procedures (such as bruxism treatments) ‘off label’. This means that it is used by a doctor outside its original intended use. Using medicines off label is a common practice and many medicines and antibiotics are used in this way.

For these reasons, wrinkle treatment injections have become the world’s number one non – surgical cosmetic treatment.

More about Anti Wrinkle Injection treatments

Facial wrinkles are caused by repetitive expressions and muscle activity. Over time, the skin eventually develops obvious lines that are perceived as signs of ageing and are cosmetically undesirable. Botox® is the brand name of a product used to treat facial wrinkles. Several other products have since been developed for the same purpose and are now widely used including Azzalure® and Xeomin®.

All of these products are in fact almost identical and contain botulinum toxin (Type A). This is a natural protein produced by a bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. The protein acts on muscles to temporarily relax them. Patients and doctors have come to refer to the treatments simply as wrinkle treatments since the procedures are performed in exactly the same way no matter what product is used.

As a consequence, these treatments can be used to relax the muscles of the face. By doing so, the wrinkles formed by muscle activity are also treated. This creates a natural, refreshed and youthful appearance of the face.

Wrinkles treatments have been performed on millions of men and women worldwide to achieve stunning cosmetic effects. Using tiny doses of botulinum toxin administered by a trained doctor, they are an extremely effective treatment and more importantly, they have exemplary safety record.

Botulinum toxin was first purified and developed into an injectable medicine used to treat a wide spectrum of conditions in the late 1970’s. It was initially used to correct eye muscle disorders and in the treatment of muscle rigidity in children with Cerebral Palsy.

More recent uses of botulinum toxin include the treatment of headaches, bruxism, lower facial slimming, overactive bladders, in vocal cord diseases and for excessive sweating. However, by far the most common use is for the cosmetic treatment of upper face wrinkles.

What is Botulinum Toxin A?

A purified protein extracted from Botulinum bacteria used for anti-ageing treatments. It is not animal based. Botox is a prescription-only medication (POM) and is prescribed specifically for you.

What is it used for?

It can be used to reduce muscle activity and thereby treat wrinkles and fine lines. It is also very useful for prevention and delaying their onset.

In addition to wrinkles it can be used to reduce or eliminate sweating from certain areas of the body such as the arm pits or groins.

How is the treatment administered?

The doctor will perform a thorough consultation to ensure you are suitable for this type of treatment. The treatment itself involves using a very fine needle to inject a very precise dose into specific muscles under the skin. There is no recovery time and you can leave straight after your treatment.

How much does it cost?

Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

As we age, structural components that maintain a youthful appearance start to loosen and break down. Volume loss causes flattening of areas such as the lips, cheeks and jawline.

Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid which is a naturally found substance present in our skin. These products are not animal based and come in the form or a sterilised gel. Different types of fillers are used for different circumstances in different areas. We use the Juvederm range produced by Allergan.

How long do results last?

Results last 6-18 months depending on the are treated.

What areas can be treated and how much does it cost?

Prices depend on the area treated and volume required. Please enquire for a consultation in order to give you an accurate assessment and recommendation.

Skin Boosters

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring compound present in our skin that depletes over time causing ageing. Pharmaceutical companies use this product in their topical creams and gels in order to harness its properties.

Skin boosters inject hyaluronic acid deeper in the skin where creams cannot penetrate to deliver its benefits where it has most effect. It results in improvement of fine lines, texture, plumpness and firmness of the skin.

It is recommended to undergo two sessions one month apart.
