Microneedling

We have all heard about microneedling and the truth is that most of us would have scrunched our faces in horror at the thought of tiny needles being rolled over our precious face!

All of us would love to look young for as long as possible, but we all know that as our age is going up, the same time the new cells and collagen production are going down.

This is a completely normal thing and there is nothing in that to make us sad, every single woman is unique and beautiful at any age and fortunately, there are several ways to halt the signs of ageing.

One of these ways is the results-oriented treatment known as microneedling which is incredible at helping the skin produce more collagen and help increase new cell production.   You may ask, how does it do that? Let’s start from the beginning.

Collagen induction therapy

Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy, a treatment that is designed to promote skin rejuvenation. Of course, the idea of getting needles inserted into your face for the sake of skincare can seem intimidating, but if you’ve seen the before and after shots, there’s no questioning the treatment’s effectiveness.

Microneedling effectively builds collagen and thickens the skin, so instead of looking good for a few days after your traditional facial, your skin is smooth and radiant for much longer. The needles are used to create small punctures on the top layer of the skin which cause the body to create new collagen and elastin!!

The tool which your skin specialist uses has super-tiny needles on the very tip, which can be adjusted between 0.5 and 2.5 millimetres, depending on your skin needs. The needles penetrate the top layer of your skin, and your body then starts treating these punctures as small wounds, which in the end, helps to create more collagen in the affected area.

Microneedling can also help reduce pore size, repair acne scars and minimize sunspots.

The treatment begins by first cleansing the face, then applying a topical numbing cream, which will take away all pain, making this a virtually pain free treatment. A customised serum will then be applied to promote skin repair, healing, and hydration. (We have many options in our professional Medik8 collection).

A microneedling pen is then passed back and forth all over your face, focusing particularly on deep wrinkles, scars and sun damage. Once the procedure is completed, another layer of serum is applied, and also a mask, which is used to seal everything in and calm the skin.

After the treatment, your skin will feel warm and look reddish, but it all disappears within a few hours. The treatment is suitable for all skin types, except for cystic acne or highly sensitive, inflamed skin like eczema and rosacea.

Microneedling can be done every 3-6 months, but if you suffer from dramatic acne scarring or sun damage, you should plan to do one session per month, for four to six months.

In terms of the final result, it depends on each individual person. With aesthetic treatments like microneedling, a thorough consultation with your skin specialist is a must, so a clear treatment path can be designed together. A pre-treatment consultation will focus on your expectations, your skin condition, and look at your homecare products as well. It is never enough to have in-depth treatments in the clinic if your homecare products are basic.
